This policy describes what Cycler Guide actually collects and what it doesn't. It is deliberately short, because this site does very little with your data.

The short version
Cycler Guide does not ask you to create an account, does not run advertising, and does not use analytics or tracking software to follow you around the web.
The only information you actively give this site is what you type into a comment form, if you choose to leave a comment.
What this site collects
Comments
If you leave a comment, the site collects:
- The name, email address and website you type into the comment form (name and email are required by the comment form; the website field is optional)
- Your IP address
- Your browser's user agent string
The IP address and user agent are collected by WordPress to help detect spam.
Your email address is not published. It is not sold, rented, or shared for marketing. Your name, your comment and — if you provide one — your website link are published publicly alongside the comment, so please don't type anything into a comment that you don't want the world to read.
Comments may be held for moderation before appearing.
Gravatar. WordPress may send an anonymized string created from your comment email address (a hash) to the Gravatar service, to check whether you have a profile picture associated with that address. Gravatar's privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If a Gravatar profile picture exists for your address, it is displayed publicly next to your comment.
Server logs
Like almost every website, this site runs on hosting that keeps standard server logs. These typically record IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps and browser user agent strings, and exist for security, diagnostics and keeping the site running. They are handled by the hosting provider under their own retention practices.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles here may include embedded content — a video, a map, an image from elsewhere. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly: that site can see you, set its own cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content. Cycler Guide does not control that, and those sites' privacy policies apply to it.
What this site does not do
To be specific about what isn't happening here:
- No analytics or tracking. This site does not currently run Google Analytics or any comparable visitor-tracking or profiling software.
- No advertising. No ad networks, no ad cookies, no retargeting.
- No newsletter. This site does not currently collect email addresses for a mailing list, and there is no signup form on it.
- No accounts. Readers cannot register, and this site does not ask you to.
- No selling data. Your information is not sold, rented or traded. Ever.
If any of this changes — if analytics, ads or a newsletter are added — this policy will be updated before or when it happens.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies on your device. This is purely a convenience so you don't have to retype your details next time. These cookies last about a year, and you can decline them by leaving the box unticked.
This site uses caching software to make pages load faster, which may store technical, non-identifying information in your browser or set functional cookies for that purpose.
Administrative cookies (login and screen preference cookies) apply only to the site's own logged-in administrators, not to readers.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work.
Who your information is shared with
Nobody, other than:
- The hosting provider, which necessarily processes server logs and stores the site's database in order to run the site.
- Gravatar, in the limited hashed form described above, and only if you comment.
- Law enforcement or legal process, if there is a valid legal obligation to disclose.
There is no other sharing. There are no data brokers, no marketing partners, and no advertising networks in this picture.
How long it's kept
Comments and their metadata are retained so that follow-up comments from the same person can be recognized and approved automatically instead of sitting in a moderation queue. Comments are retained indefinitely unless you ask for yours to be removed.
Your choices
You can ask Cycler Guide to:
- Tell you what information the site holds about you
- Correct information that is wrong
- Delete your comments and the personal data attached to them
Requests like these are honored. There is no need to explain why, and depending on where you live you may also have additional rights under local law.
This does not extend to information that must be kept for legal, security or fraud-prevention reasons.

Children
Cycler Guide is a general-audience cycling website and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a child has left a comment containing personal information, contact the site and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top changes with it. Material changes — new tracking, new data collection — will be reflected here before or when they take effect.
